Some usefull links

I have collected a couple of useful links for people who move around on the big seas. Here you will find everything from technical sites, route planning, boat design and so on!

Here is a couple of links to organizations that actually do make a difference for our planet oceans – we support them and so should you!

Sea Shepherd

Sea Shepherd uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately balanced ocean ecosystems, Sea Shepherd works to ensure their survival for future generations.

Greenpeace is a non-governmental environmental organization with offices in over forty countries and with an international coordinating body in Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Wind & Weather

Wind and weather information is as crucial s having food on-board before you set of.  Here is a couple of useful links to different weather sources.

Global wind and wave forecasts for around the world. Includes surface winds, wave height and direction, and atmospheric pressure maps.

WindGURU is a service specialized for forecasting weather, mostly used by windsurfers, kitesurfers & sailors

A french weather site with very trustworthy forecasts

Live Global Weather

Windy TV

A website offering weather forecasts on a graphical interface.

Marine Engineering

When you are living on the sea you always rely on that your boat is in good condition and that all systems are working in an efficient manner. Regardless of age or state of your boat, i am sure you will find some fascinating information on these sites!

Kasten Marine Design

Michael Kasten`s design philosophy is simplicity, ruggedness and seaworthiness which makes him kind of a “rare bird” in our age of performance-driven marine designs. Even if you are not into marine engineering, this website has plenty of information what you might find very useful.

Beta Marine Diesels

In my opinion, currently Beta Marine Engines are the most efficient way of powering your vessel in the absence of wind. Their legendary reliability, affordable parts and overall ruggedness is second to none. On the high seas, the green engine or the grey one will not be as tough as these red ones! Attila will be soon equiped with one of these power plants (Beta 35)

PRM newage gearboxes

If you are roaming the world on a sail or power vessel, every element of your gear have to be seaworthy, designed with sufficient safety factor to survive abuse and readily repairable in case of failure. Very few gearbox manufacturers place these considerations high up on their list of priorities, but PRM is one of them. After long investigation and calculations, I have come to the conclusion that these are the best suited gearboxes on the market for all pelagic nomads outthere.

Programs to download

There is many different programs out there on the market for sailors. Navigation, weather, communication and so on.  Here is a collection of really good  programs you can download for free.

Open CPN is a great navigation program that allows you not only navigate with it. You will also find functions such as; route planning, tides, weather information and much more
